Late 50s/Early 60s A. Zildjian stamp

From SlingerLynn

I paid $135 + $12 shipping. Probably a little much, but he said it's 1465 grams with a low-pitched, mellow crash. That's what sound I typically like, better if it's a little trashy, so I figured it would be worth the gamble. He said he'd refund my money if I don't like it, but id have to pay to ship it to me and back to him, probably $20 total. I'd rather be out $20 than pay $147 and be stuck with something I don't like. If it sounds like he described, I will like it though.

1465 grams is pretty thin. I thought this was a ride cymbal, but based on your text above I'm now guessing its a crash. What size is it?

I apologize for my lack of detail. It's an 18" crash.

Here is a picture of the stamp. I tried the cymbal out. It only took one strike with a stick to know it's WAY too clangy for my taste. I struck it a second time just to make sure and, you guessed it, it's still clangy.

So, I've contacted the seller and informed him I would like to return it, on my dime, for a refund of only the selling price. I'm so bummed! I was hoping it would sound great. I wanted it to be a 50s cymbal. But more than that, I wanted it to sound good. Oh well, I'll just have to keep looking.

From Drumaholic

Early 1970's.

Drumaholic, thank you for the confirmation. I was thinking the ink stamp had been removed, or it was prior to the ink stamps. My knowledge of Zildjian stamps is fairly limited, but I knew it was a 70s.

When I pulled it out of the box, I thought it might sound good because it felt thin on the shoulder. But, it had an enormous and fairly thick bell that I'm guessing was the cause of it being clangy.

I'm out $26 on the deal, but at least I'm not sitting on a cymbal I don't want that I paid $147 for.
