Late 50's Gretsch 4 Piece Name Band Kit in Burgundy Sparkle

Loading...

Gents... end of year sale. Most of you know this kit and for those who don't, there is an entire thread in the Vintage section with everything you'd want to know.

Offered for sale:

Late 50's Gretsch Name Band Kit in Burgundy Sparkle (Merlot/re-wrap): 13"x9", 16"x16", 14"x20" w/matching 5.5"x14" snare. (see photos)

These are the hard to find 3-ply maple 'Brooklyn shells.' The drums are in excellent physical condition. No extra holes, the drums had the original heads on them that had never been removed by the original owner, (I got them from a guy in his 70's that bought them 'used' in 1960!) the bearing edges are factory fresh. They sound warm with great, rich tone and just what you'd expect from a classic (vintage) set of Gretsch drums.

The snare is missing the lever on the throw. It works, and works well. Some light pitting on some of the lugs, but they polished up beautifully and the kit looks like it just rolled out of the showroom. The Pratt muffler in the bass drum is not installed, but I have the original unit that I will give you with the drums. With the EMAD batter head on it, the bass drum doesn't need any muffling anyway. With the new *Merlot wrap (*modern burgundy sparkle) from Precision Drum, this kit is good to go for another 60 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Because it's a re-wrap, I'm offering the kit here to members who know the drums from following my drum escapades, for:

$1600. + you pay all shipping costs from, 19607 to you.

I have the kit listed on CL for much more than I am asking here. Deep VDF discount on this one. They won't be making any more of these so get em while the getting is good. I need the money, but I won't feel too bad if these don't sell! lol

Please, serious inquiries only. Not willing to swap unless it's a killer kit + cash. My price is firm on this one. I -know- it's a re-wrap, but if it had the original wrap, given the great condition of the set, you'd be forking over $3500 or better for this kit. It's an honest/fair deal I'm offering. BTW, I will -not- nest these drums to ship them, so figure on minimum of three boxes. I should be able to get the snare in with one of the other drums.

PM me... hoping to find a new home for these before X-mas!

Thanks for the info boys! I can't change the title though. I used the full-edit window, but when I hit Save, the title goes back to the original.

It'll just have to be what it be's! People will read your posts and figure out I made a mistake in naming the kit.

For the record: It's a Nameband kit, not the Progressive Jazz. My bad...

Jeff - Just trying to raise some holiday and bill money. I have four grandchildren and at least two wolves at the door! Otherwise, I wouldn't be selling this beauty of a kit. I love these drums. Hoping to find a good home for them. I still have my Camco's and my pre-serial Luddies and I'm not gigging, so the third kit, the Gretsch's, became the sacrificial lamb.

Oh, to have been born rich! I wouldn't sell off any of my drums or gear. I'd probably end up appearing on a 'Hoarders' episode if I had my druthers!

Someone's getting a very fair deal on this one. I'll be surprised if it's listed past Christmas.
