Krut "Special" 18 crash / ride

Loading...

I am looking at a Krut "Special" 18 crash / ride at a pretty low price. It is worth buying for $40? It's going to go with my vintage pearl kit. I know these cymbals were low end...but sometimes age helps them sound better :)

I'm also looking at a Stagg Y series 18" crash / ride....which would sound better?

"Better" isn't really a concept I adhere to, but the Krut Special with it's high silver/nickel whatever alloy will sound very trashy, probably much more so than the Stagg.

1964 Ludwig Champagne Super Classic
1970 Ludwig Blue Oyster Super Classic
1977 Rogers Big R Londoner 5 ebony
1972/1978 Rogers Powertone/Big R mix ebony
60's Ludwig Supersensitive
Pearl B4514 COB snare ( the SC snare)
Pearl Firecracker
PJL WMP maple snare
Odds & Sods

Sabians, Paistes, Zildjians, Zyns, UFIPs, MIJs etc

Basically the same as a Premier Zyn cymbal and as said trashy it will sound whatever the age.

I have as new and old ZYN cymbals and the nickel silvers are all pretty much the same sound wise but the larger ones can have no life in them and sound like a trash can lid.

More Krud than Turk though and $40 is about right price wise.

Look out for a Super Zyn which will be very 60's and trad jazz or a 5 star Super Zyn if you want a bright more modern tone or retro 70's.

2 star Zyn are slightly better than the Zyn you have seen but still nickel silver and trashy.
