I hear you. At least you have the T rods ;)
Try soaking the rusty parts is regular Coke for a while to help with the rust.
But don't drink it later, no matter how tired you are...
T- rods are a pain...
Do you have a small bench vice? If you do, clamp the non-threaded end in the vice and clean that way. Saves your fingers.

Get some Dawn dish soap. Use 1 part Dawn to 4 or 5 parts water and let them soak for 48 hrs...the rust will lift off......works like a charm.....I use it all the time...
Ok... I got several more to go, so....
I'm going to drop a couple in some coke... couple others in some Dawn... then grab my vice out of the garage and buff'em with a drill (my garage is not heated and it's 16 degrees here today). I shall report the results..
