Pearl offered this line of wood/fiberglass drums throughout the 1970s. It is a 9-ply shell with no reinforcement rings and a thin layer of fiberglass sprayed on the inside of the shell. These drums are loud and punchy, and pretty heavy to lug around. They were not as popular as their all-fiberglass brothers, which Pearl also offered during this time period as well as into the early 1980s. The all-fiberglass shells were also punchy and loud, but held their tuning much better and also were much lighter in weight. I have owned a set of the wood/fiberglass drums since I bought them new in 1978, but actually think the all-fiberglass shells are better.BTW -- you should have received tracking info from UPS (to the paypal email address). Your drum shipped out yesterday...Bill
thanks bill, i have heard (read) you mention the wood/fg a few times and was trying to picture in my mind what they were. i was thinking layers of each material but then wondered how that would work. i can see where the w/fg would be pretty heavy in weight but i bet they were pretty sturdy too. was pearl the only company that offered this combination?
yep got the tracking number and took a look, it says my drum is on its way and is in earth city, mo. should be here monday afternoon. thanks, i let ya know when it get here.
