This is the forth time in just two days that someone has come on a drum forum and blasted a business because of one transaction. One single transaction. Now, we get the warning from that customer as if we should ban the business or something. I've done plenty business with Sam and will continue. I've had a very bad experience with precision and yet I continue to do business with them. And I do not blast a warning about any of it on the forums. Please, unless a pattern exists, chalk it up to either a bad day, a misunderstanding, or personal eccentricities. We are not all the same. Give a bit of slack to others. Sam is a very good guy and a valuable drum resource. Call him and engage in a conversation beyond what you need. You just might learn a thing or two.

This is a good point, however there is also the old adage "You never get a second chance to make a first impression". By basically being told that since I was a new customer, he didn't want my business, unless I was placing a large order.

If he wants to do business that way, that's certainly his choice. I didn't come on here to "trash" him or his business, just to share my experience as a first time caller. Imagine you went into a new (to you) clothing store that you had heard of and wanted to look around and liked what you saw, but maybe just get a pair of socks and a comb for now . What if the clerk said you couldn't buy those small items because you were a first time customer? Would you ever go back? Especially when competitors are just around the corner (or a click away online)?

I could not agree more. I tell my kids to not hold other people to a higher standard than they hold themselves. As a small business owner it is imperative to try and give every customer 110% but we are all human. Sometimes the immediacy of Internet connectivity and social media can be a bad thing.

To the original post, that does seem strange and I understand your frustration. My experience with JS has always been great. I too wish Sam would post here. It might warrant a call.

Precision Drum all the way. Jammin Sam?... NEVER AGAIN. I purchased tension rods that were pictured with washers and sold as "tension rods with washers". They arrived with no washers. I called Sam and rather than apologize and send me the missing parts he insisted that "washers are not necessary on drums anyway" and hung up on me. The tension rods were absolute CRAP to boot. I got my refund from the credit card company. Do not waste your time on this clown.

I'll say this about Jammin' Sam, first time I called to get some inlays, I asked him why his prices were twice Precision's prices, and he just cut me off and said "THATS THE PRICE." Thats it, no haggling, quite rude to be honest. I'm a shopkeeper at a mom and pop drum shop in town, and though I can be totally rude to customers if i want, I'm usually pretty patient when it comes to haggling and will often let customers win if its not worth a big fight over a few bucks. Not that I'm knocking Sam for being firm on prices, theres just no need to be rude like that, I mean haggling is part of business! Second, the double sided tape he insisted on did not bond to the hoops and I ended up just having to glue them down. That said, his vintage sparkles were closer than what Precision offered for my particular project. If I had to order from him again for that reason I probably would even though he was sort of an ******* and expensive.

Not sure why anyone would want to trust a tape wrap anyway, one time in the sun and it's bubbled and loose?

Still looking for a wrap company that used to sell self stick high quality wrap, that stuff was the best of both worlds! :)

Maybe we should all get on the horn over to Jammin Sams and ask to buy 1 threaded eyelet grommet! :D

Doesn't Drum Foundry carry self adhesive wrap? Still up on their website. http://www.drumfoundry.com/c-91-drum-wraps.aspx

I agree with McJnic. If you have been ripped off, sold dodgy gear, etc then sharing is a public service. If you don't like somebody's telephone manner or service values complaining publicly is less service and more vent.

I ordered from Sam to cover my natural wood Gretsch kit. I chose to use tape, in the event I wanted to have the shells refinished. Plus, the bass drum had a few extra holes from a different mount and the tom tom had snare rash.

It's going on three years and I haven't had any issues with the wrap.

How lame!I just called them to place an order for a pair of hoop inlays and their threaded 7/16" eyelets. To the best of my knowledge, they are the only ones that carry threaded 7/16" eyelets.Anyway, the guy on the phone was real stand-offish. He said that they only sell the threaded 7/16" eyelets with drum wraps, and that hoop inlays don't count. He also said, because I had never ordered from them before, that they wouldn't be able to sell me just the hoop inlays either.So, basically because I am a new (potential) customer, I can't get what I need, even though they sell it? How does one get to be a customer if they put limits on what you can buy initially (i.e. minimum order quantities).Well, they won't ever have to worry about having me as a customer, because I will NEVER call them again.I've got projects to do and money to spend. I'll happily take that money elsewhere.

Well, if you are frustrated with JS, I sell drum wrap too and for a lot lower price than JS does, or Precision for that matter. I don't sell grommets and I don't cut the wrap. I sell in full sheets onlyl, but they are oversized sheets (58x28) and only $65 a sheet.

I responded to this thread back in March, but feel the need to reply again. I've done business with Sam for a long time now. True, sometimes Sam does business his own way and we have to live with it. However, I've now built up a good rapport with Sam and pretty much get what I want. Still, I do have to order wrap for at least one drum to get the 7/16" die-cast grommets for a good price. On the plus side, Sam now asks me if I want tape or not!

Jammin' Sam is basically a mom/pop operation and, as such, it takes time and patience to win his respect and good business sense. I can honestly say that when I call Sam, we're on the phone more than the "average" customer, simply because we've built up our relationship over the decades. I have no complaints with Sam!
