I never used to put coated on my snare, but had no choice one time. I liked it and have not gone back to clear. Something about a coated head on the batter of a snare works.

Wish MD (Modern Drummer) did a more detailed/thorough interview,
Re: his equipment/gear , i.e i'd like to know WHAT brand/model/series/size&type snare drums (s) he used with EC,
I know he endorsed or was using NON -*** drums before '75&tour of Japan with EC,
But NOT know WHAT brand he's playing before Yamaha.
Does anyone know what brand, model, type of snare he played/used both live&in the studio with Clapton?.
I saw him with Eric Clapton around 74 in Pittsburgh (EC was stone drunk) I always thought Oldaker (I recall white Yamaha's that day) used a refurbished 7x14 vintage Radio King snare with the Yamaha's ( for some reason)

I think you have to search old Clapton concert mid 70s stage photos
Sort of along the lines of early LA/Porcaro- using Drum Doctor- modded vint. snares. With Modern for the time sets.
