Izmir

From Drumaholic

That 2nd Izmir isn't the same as the first. But that first one looks very cool to me. And as you say, it sounds good. That's what really counts.

It really does sound good,, I'm hoping to keep the Turkish looking logo as i go along cleaning it but that wont matter if i cant,, i have vintage Paiste Stambuls that sound and look amazing without huge logo's to spoil their looks,,

Hey all,

I just discovered an Izmir cymbal being sold online that has a big MADE IN CANADA stamp on the bottom. It is a modern looking 16in crash with the moon and star logo (see attached). Just trying to add to our knowledge base here - for future reference.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Hey there Drum-heads , just to join in on the Izmir buzz , I recently purchased a 20 inch ride made by the company , I'm impressed , however its up for sale , I'm impulsive and just cant see me needing 4 rides. If anyone is interested in a good sounding ride I can forward the pics. I'm new , just registered today cuz I was curious as to what this Izmir deal was .....good or bad....it's well worth 150.00 Canadian I paid

The posted Izmir , is most likely an Italian made cymbal---- one of the brands that Tosco was using or custom labelled for. There are a number of physical characteristics; the lathing, the subtle, gently curved fluting around the bell, the bell conformation relative to the bow and most notably , the wavy structure along a portion of the edge, that say, Italian. At some point, Sabian started producing a line of cheap spun pies branded Izmir too. That's what all those other Izmirs are. They were possibly , the precursor in their stable, to Solar, their current 100.00, entry level cymbal pack, or just up from there. They were spun bronze with either large machine hammered dimples or large scribed circles on them , that make them look like they were crafted by an octopus. They kind of sound like they are under water too. Sabian bought Tosco , so that is probably where the Izmir, branding got acquired.
