I think he was counting the drum and mic stands, each cowbell, practice pad and possibly each drum stick individually to come up 42 drums & percussion pieces!

Maybe he was the drummer from the band Stryper . . . Possibly the guy on the far right of the band picture ! LoLoLoLo

Wow. Those are all Rogers Big R XP8 series? As far as the math goes, there might indeed be $3grand in equipment there. Cant' tell what the snare is, but the Yamaha timpani FT's usually go for big bucks, as well as that gong. But oh, that paintDOH If you look close, I think the inside of the shells are also painted, along with some of the Memriloc hardware. Lot of stripping needed. And it's only a 16-piece set. I'll think I'll hold out for a bigger set like this one:

There are indeed 21 (albeit unsightly) drums...if you count the rototoms. The most difficult drum to see is the standard size snare, which is on the floor up against the wall; in the 1st photo, it's barely visible, peeking from behind the lone floor tom on the left. In the 2nd photo, it's right behind the China cymbal stand.

10 rack toms

3 floor toms

2 bass drums

2 snares

4 rotos

=21

That said, even if those amazing XP8's weren't defiled by that revolting paint job, it's about 16 or 17 drums too many for me.

Vintage kits:

Not-so-vintage kits:

When you think of all the work that went into that...kinda makes me sad.

But! I'll probably buy it for the cymbal felts and put the rest in storage.

Ken

I agree and would love to sit behind and play a kit like that once. . . unfortunately my arms are way too short to even reach the upper level toms on the kit in Mike's pictures LoLoLoLo

The most I can reach is on my Gretsch set and that's only a 9-piece kit.

From 8upwithit

One of the things on my bucket list is to play a giant kit (just once) like the one in Mike's post. That, and flying a jumbo jet...Ken

Bring lots of sticks because you will have to throw a bunch at the top row. The jet can fly it`self making it easy for you.
