Is this a Gretsch / Jasper shell? (1970s)

Hey all,

Is this a Gretsch / Jasper shell? I know the 70s are pretty clearly an era for silver sealer paint in the shell interior. I understand some shells didn't get the sealer but this is a rare occurence. I asked the seller to include some tight shots of the shell and the bearing edge - what do you think?

Thanks all!

John

Everything looks mostly correct except for the missing silver fence paint and the patina on the badge. Possibly someone stripped both. The badge definitely was polished with something that removed the lacquered areas, The interior of the drum kind of looks like there is a sort of residue on it as if maybe it was silver at one time. Maybe someone sanded it down for whatever reason. The loose paper tag would be another indication of something like that. Looks like the throw off was switched out and so was the muffler so I suppose anything is possible but the rest of the drum, including the exterior finish looks properly Gretsch to me.

Some things that make me suspicous:

The paper tag removed from the shell but taped to the bottom head - weird, like a project in progress

No silver sealer

The muffler doesn't look right

The lugs, hardware, badge look good to me

Lastly - not sure why the pics in the ad basically look like drum project photos.

The only thing mentioned are extra holes from that awesome crooked Pearl throw off and a missing grommet (but badges are there)

People assault drums in truly weird ways but that exterior finish does look like Gretsch walnut stain under Nitro lacquer. If the basis of the drum is original to that label and badge then it is a Jasper made shell.

Badge grommet has been removed or messed with.

The double flat washers do not look right to me, to add to the long list of items mentioned above which have been changed.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72
