Inside Club Date Lug/Cleaning

Loading...

I'm taking the lugs off my duco Club date and applying some 3 in 1 oil to the tension rods and feeding it through the lugs to get out vintage grime. Each spring has old duct tape around it I'm guessing that this is common practice to keep the springs sturdy? Should I take the old tape off the springs?

Any tips for tuning? I'm guessing after putting oil on the tension rods will make it de-tune easier for awhile. But I hate the sticky, dirty lugs.

Thanks all

It was probably on there to stop rattling. Obviously I don't know if that worked but most times a spring is wrapped it's to stop rattling noise. I've seen this before also. I took it off and put cloth felt on it.

I always wrap springs with felt when I have a drum apart...There is nothing worse than getting the drum back together and tuned up to find out you have spring rattle...Which lug could it be?

Just my 2 cents...

That spring wrapping is factory, from the two Club Date kits I've cleaned. It might be dirty but if it's not rotting I saw no reason to replace it.

Have we seen pics of these duco Club Dates...? :)
