Now things get interesting. Same cymbals, same order, same stick, same room, still no effects, but recorded with a large diaphragm condenser mic and a nice preamp, with the mic placed several feet away.

Again, the cymbals are (listed out of recorded order):

A - 20" MIJ Caravan (Slightly Warped), Medium Light

B - 17" Intermediate Stamp Old K, Medium

C - 20" Bettis Half Turk, Medium

D - 20" 50s Large Stamp Old A Swish (Unriveted), Medium

E - 20" MIJ Kingston, Medium

F - 22" Krut Special (UFIP-Style), Medium Light

G - 20" MIJ Kingston (Extra Flat Profile), Medium

H - 22" 60s Stamp Old A, Medium

I'll wait for a few more comments, then I'll reveal the real order.

As a life-long technician who has been involved in many scientific evaluations...I love your post. You have made what I believe to be an honest attempt at a good unbiased evaluation. I have only one suggestion: Next time you need a sample from one identified cymbal which is made known to all as a standard or control. This would permit everyone listening to have a set standard for comparison.

I've never put much faith in comparisons simply because we are all different individuals. People have trouble comparing even the most simple of things, such as colors or drinking water...comparing cymbals not only has a lot to do with our individual auditory differences but also the environmental characteristics as well as the device used to vibrate the cymbal or record it. (ideally you would want these factors to be exactly identical...striking pressure alone can make things totally out of tolerance for a good comparison.

Once again...love your post and what you are attempting to do. Personally I believe your attempt here has been the best comparisons I've witnessed on the forum during my brief period as a member.
