According to Wikipedia,Ian switched to Pearl in '82,due to product development problems.

Someone posted an interview with him on here a while back. I searched but I couldn't find it. Basically, he had been a Ludwig guy for most of his professional life, but he began to notice quality control issues and began trying out other drums. He settled on Pearl. I can understand that, as my modern kit is a Pearl and they are great sounding and well-built drums. Ian Paice was a big influence on me when I first started playing. I played along to 'Made in Japan' for hours on end, or attempted to, I should say. Outstanding drummer.

Paice has one of the best rolls in the business, very smooth...and his playing on "Burn" is mind blowing!

So very true one of my all time favorite drummers. We last saw Deep Purple back in 04-05 (can't remember exactly) it was the first concert I took my boys too. One to remember we all had a great time. Ian played a silver sparkle/glass glitter Pearl kit. His normal 1 up 2 down setup with a pair of concert toms added. Beautiful kit and they were all outstanding. Mountain was the warm up band and they rocked too!!

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

I had a chance to see Mr. Paice last night for the first time. Outstanding. Powerful, swinging, and awe-inspiring.

The rest of the band was on as well. Ian Gillan is still in great voice.
