I know they are refurbished but come on!

So, when I take a good look at this kit: [ame]http://www.ebay.com/itm/251495167743?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT[/ame]

It isn't obvious to me why it hasn't sold--and why it couldn't sell for at least several hundred more dollars. You folks help me out. I mean, I know it's refurbished but it looks great and the seller has excellent feedback. There's every reason to believe he does good work. Now, given that it's refurbished I know that the resale value is compromised but come on! These look great! They probably sound great! If you were only infected with cymbalholism and not drumholism--that is, if you were buying to play and keep and not with a view to resell--why in the world would you pay 1000 more dollars for a new Gretsch kit? Or even 800 or so more dollars for a used Gretsch kit? Is refurbished all that bad?

Maybe I'm missing something here. Help me out folks.

I wonder how bad the inside shells were that he had to repaint them?

Good question. BillnVick has a great rewrapped Ludwig Pro Beat kit still for sale with similar wrap for $650 or so. Classic Ludwig sound and shells in excellent condition, just rewrapped.

I think his price is low. I guess there just is not that many folks willing to put out that money for a referb kit in that finish - at this time. Personally, I have some 50's Gretsch shells that I had on the market a few times lately. I have since refinished then and bought a new bass drum head. I have a lot more into them than I could ever get out but that's common when you collect vintage drums and then want to part with them.

I did the math for just the parts and shells alone on my kit and it's well over $1500. I got my information mostly from sales (not stuff that's BIN or 'for' sale) - stuff that has sold on eBay and other retail sources. I'm not comparing my drums exactly to the ones here but I'm sure the drums inquestion are well worth what the seller is asking.......it's just knowone is biting for whatever reason.

This is my kit and I'd be hard pressed (but I might have to) to sell it for under $2000. 22/13/16 6.5.14 snare CadiGreen-like finish.

Rewraps don't really bother me on a players kit as long as they are done well.

Found it!!

The vintage market is funny. Here is an original kit that went for under $1k:

You really never know what drums are worth. I always say they are worth whatever people are willing to pay at the time.

Manny,

You hit the nail on the head. I generally like these kinds of deals as I am seldom have need for collector's grade kits. (If we are honest, none of us NEED collector's grade kits, but hey that is part of the fun!) If I were in the market for a players grade RB kit, this is the kind of thing I would seriously consider. Plus tangerine is pretty hot.

Feels like a taste thing, Tangerine may be rare, but not necessarily what folks are looking for in a players kit. If re-wrapping, might be better to go with wraps with more general appeal and timeless feel. Any one noticing the new vintage cream oyster wraps around lately? They look awesome!

PS: when I was looking out for a used Renown kit, I couldn't even find one for $750 before I got the vintage bug! That is ridiculously cheap. I was considering buying that kit but can't afford a keeper at the moment. I also got the feeling if I went up against that buyer his max bid was prepared to go higher still so thought I'd let him have a deal
