I found this rare Radio King Last viewed: 9 minutes ago

Hi, I found this rare Radio king, the badge is from 1928 to 1941, but de finish doesn´t appear to be a slingerland finish of those years.

Size it´s 14 x 7, 8 tube lugs.

Is this really a Radio King snare?

The guy is asking about $600

Sorry for my english...

It's definitely been refinished on the outside. Is the inside the same color wood, or is it a darker brown wood ?

I'm no Slingerland expert by any means, but I'd say thats NOT a real slingerland radio king. Looks like something someone cobbled up out of spare parts, they are mostly slingerland parts but looks to be from different eras and the generic tube lugs without any extra holes in the shell kind of gives it away.

That's a '28-'35 Slingerland "Professional" snare drum. Early Slingerland Radiokings had the "streamlined" lugs only, no tube lugs.

And yes, the badge has been off the drum...

Hi, thanks!!

the wood inside it seems to be darker.

i really don´t know if the parts are from different years, but the shell is natural maple with a brilliant finish...

Hey,

I'm not an expert on this by any stretch of the imagination...but, the shell looks suspect. It has that, "New Couch in an Old Trailer" look to it. Nice clean maple shell with old old incorrect hardware. The inner wood appears dark and porous while the outer wood is Maple. It is not a solid shell. It might be a 2 ply or a 3 ply. Can't tell from the pics. It looks "interesting". I'm not sure what to say about it. That grommet looks suspect. It might be a removal and apply on a different shell. Look at the back of the grommet. Does it look as though it's been cut or damaged in any way or is it clean and smooth? The rerings could be a clue. Are the rerings solid maple or plies? That would definitely be a dead giveaway. The hoops are wrong. For these lugs, they should be the single flange with those really sweet grips. It had a nice look. My gut tells me this snare is wrong. Someone else with much more depth can chime in.

Thank you guys for the answers, this weekend i´m going to take a closer look, but I got to tell you, I´m not buying it anyway. The same guy has a Student model.

Thanks!

The thing that bugs me is that the snare guards are missing and there are NO holes for them in the shell....definately NOT a real Radio King.....

Might be an old Slingerland (pre-Radio King) 3 ply shell with the original tube lugs.

Re-finished, throw off missing tension knob, '60s rims...

Worth maybe $100...I'd avoid this seller if you don't know what you're looking for.
