I didn't post a video, nor did I endorse any, so yeah, I think I'm in the right forum and trying to answer the OPs question.

Slinger fan -- I was on the correct section. The video link I posted was to inform Jimmysticks in regards to his response to my comment, and to others if they choose. I forgot that once you post a link to a video on the forum, it automatically opens the source to the video, in this case, YouTube. I have since edited my original comment to just the title of the video, and removed the original link to the actual video. I felt that it was important for people to see this video and make up their own minds about certain truths and perspectives that aren't being shown in the mainstream media that can be vital for an individual's safety and way of life during these trying times. I'm not here to instill my beliefs or perspectives on anyone, because that was not my intention. It was simply to inform.

I have no issue with this thread as is for the time being as we are indeed experiencing .. and I loathe using these words, simply for their overuse .. unprecedented times. The thoughts/opinions put forth within this thread are all heartfelt by their OP's and speak to the situation currently happening, inclusive of just what might remain of the music business, venues/gigs, etc., as we all used to know it, as they are all connected! That said though ... please do refrain from making this overly political, because at that point I will have to close the thread. Otherwise ... keep on keepin' on!

Yeah...sorry...I was trying to keep it just related to working as drummers in this time of crisis. I probably should have known better.

No apology needed! Your post was fine! .. and .. quite poignant given the situation we are all in currently. No ... it's just that it's very difficult to NOT take a political stance on something like this. Not to mention, completely uncharted waters as well! No apologies needed or required! BEST!!!

So anyway, yeah this sucks. I'm a divorced dad, and spent most of my boys' childhoods working full time and spending most of my off time being involved in their lives as possible, so music took a backseat for several years. Now that they're older and have their own lives, friends, girlfriends, I've been able to get back into it in the last year or so. I started a new funk/soul project with a couple old friends in January, which was really promising. And I was invited to join another established working band as a permanent fill-in in February. Had three practices with them, played my first gig with them in March, and then the world blew up. So yeah, this sucks. Anyway, stay healthy everybody, and hopefully we'll get back to making the girls shake their assets on the dance floor very soon.

I now feel VERY fortunate to have been able to play some really fun gigs in close proximity to some very good players. Of course, I was from the ilk of drummers who were never destined to be really well-known...or even kinda known....but, nevertheless...There's nothing to substitute for feeling that you are being watched and appreciated for what you are doing, by some kind of audience -even if that audience is in a very small corner of a local restaurant a couple nights a week. It used to be doable if you really wanted to play. But with this new need to stay further apart, I'm not sure if the venues that had live music will be able to find a way to balance the budget for it. A lot of us probably have heard that old tune...."Business has been slow, so we're going to have to cut the live music for awhile..." Right?

Many live music venues relied upon "packing them in" in order to pay the bands. The more the people, the more drinks the venues could sell and the more money they could make. Sometimes, this even trickled down to the band making more, too....sometimes.

Personally, I honestly don't feel like I even want to go out and see any live music, either. I'm over 60 years old and I think I just want to spend the rest of my time with my wife without adding more worry. I played a lot of gigs over my career...most of them...meh....some of them were really fun...but I don't miss it. Been there, Done that. It was always a struggle to make ends meet even before all this stuff hit.

I'll be fine because of my wife's career. But a lot of guys are just disappearing and losing touch with the former community...melting back into their pasts. It seems like we are entering a new Dark Age.
