I have a vintage Ludwig kit and one of the mounted toms has developed a vertical crack in the wrap at the location of the tom mount. I worry that this might continue to spread due to the stress of the mounting lug as it is used.
What's the best way to prevent this? Glue the crack to stop the spread? If so, what's the best type of glue to use. Any help would be appreciated.

as a "least alteration" option, I submit that you might somehow inject some white PVA glue and clamp.
This should stop or at least delay any further cracking as it is a flexible bond.
Weldbond glue would be my first choice.

Just as with cymbals, identify the end of the crash and drill a hole.
Ditto OMG! Laughing H Telling a newbie to drill a hole in his shell to stop a crack in the wrap is very funny indeed as long as he hopefully recognizes it as a joke. I'd hate to see his next post.... "The hole stopped the crack, but now how do I fill the hole?" DOH
Fill the hole with crest toothpaste.

Great advice, Rik. I drilled the hole on both ends of the crack but thought I'd do a little more modification so I got out my jigsaw and cut a 4" square port from the side of the tom. Looks and sounds much better now.
And I'm sure the value has gone up from the customization!
