How to make eyelets "shallower"?

Loading...

Hello,

I have several badges and 5/16" or 7/16" eyelets, but the problem I am having is that the eyelets are too "deep" for the thin, 3-ply shells, as in after inserting them in the badge and then into the air vent on the shell, they stick out inside the shell. I know that ideally, they should be about flush with the inside of the shell.

Should I somehow cut or file them down, or does anyone know of a place I can get shorter (shallower) eyelets?

Thanks!

I know that there are Ludwig 3 ply repro grommets available on ebay...I believe they are 3/8" x 3/8" in diameter and length...I`m not sure what brand you are looking for though...

Badges should stick out a bit from the inside of the shell. You'll then need to use a grommet tool to flair the grommet over. Naturally, you'll need the proper length grommet, depending on the thickness of the shell.

Grommet tools have been discussed often on this forum. I have three different tools; an inexpensive tool for generic grommets. A better tool give a nicer and tighter grommet flair, and a tool specifically for installing Slingerland aluminum grommets.
