I did some squeezing of the shell using two sets of bar clamps with 2x4s on each side. by turning the shell between the parallel 2x4, you can find the high spots. Got it to so a standard G2 head can be be put on with reasonable effort. Likely the extra wide heads would go on well at this point. Tempted to keep straightening. I don't have the extra wide in hand.

Gave it a try with the G2 head. Snare side fits pretty well. Reassembled and it sounds reasonable. Not as ringy as my very early krupa sound king. But now the snares are the right length (since the side is no longer mashed in). Snare mechanism works well and is quite sensitive. May still try the remo classic head. I did not wind up soldering anything.
