Hi Guys,
Not a super technical question here but I'd still like to hear people's views.
I need to repair a bass drum hoop that's got a split in it.
What's the best way to remove the staples holding the inlay in?
I've never removed either staples or inlay before just wanted a little advice from others that have done it.

Small flat head screwdriver and block of wood to both protect and use as leverage. Get the staple raised up a little at the centre. Then snip the staple in two and gently pull out the legs one at a time with pliers.

Thanks, much appreciated. Can I just ask again, so you replace the original staple with a new one ? You don't try and get the old one out without cutting it? Won't this put extra holes in the inlay with the new staple if they aren't the same size?

Yes it will, but if you grab some staples the same size no problem.. you can use the existing holes in the inlay but it will be loose in the hoop holes if you try and use those again. (to get good tension , new staples and new holes in the hoop is best).
I also rotate the inlay around about 1/4'' away from the original holes.
