So if I read that right... It's basically the same drum, the super-sensitive just having the different snare mechanism... is that the only difference?

Is the super-sensitive considered a 'special' type of supraphonic then? Is the sound very different between the two?

Are there any negatives associated with the super-sensitive that make the supraphonic a more sought after drum?

That brochure is pretty cool - what year is it from?

Basically the same drum! The Super Sensitive has finer tuning of the snares. The butt side and strainer side both have adjustments. In the end really the Super Sensitive has more parts and more chances for a "finicky" tuning. (from what I have heard).

Other then that I'm guessing mid 60's on the brochure based on the strainer and the shells, earlier versions had brass shells and these are not that. I do not know the exact year of change form the brass shells.

Basically, it's the same drum. The Super-Sensitive was less of a "workhorse" than was its cousin the Supra. The Super-Sensitive was probably more widely used as a symphonic drum and the Supra was more of a drum-kit snare drum -at least that's how I always viewed the difference. I don't think the 71 would have a brass shell. It's a well-known drum but is not as in demand as the Supra because of the more finicky and stick-out snare mechanism. I'm not sure if the snare beds were different or not. Both the Super Sensitive and the Supra 400 are G-R-E-A-T sounding snare drums!
