I may be forced to start mounting a hi-hat/ closed cymbals by my floor tom. Are there any of you Vintage drum users that use such a stand? I would like to make something out of a Ludwig flat base stand to match the other stands.Any ideas or photos will be deeply appriciated.MME

I use an old MIJ hat stand with the pedal removed. I have sabian B8`s (real loose) on it and they sound great for rock. My other hat stand has vintage Zildjians.
the idea above is good if you want to match the stands and arent worried about using the foot pedal. otherwise there are those newer ones with the cable connected pedals.
you also might want to think about a drop-clutch either way...

I can't find the link, but Mickey Dolenz (the Monkees,ok maybe not the best example) and Johny Barbata(a real drummer) from the Turtles hat hi hats mounted center on the bass drum.If you want to actually use them in the open and close position,I think the only way to go is a cable remote hat, with the foot board on your left.

Sandy Nelson lost his right foot in a motorcycle accident. He moved the hi hat stand to the right of his ride cymbal, and played a righty set with his left foot playing the bass drum and his prosthetic right foot on the hihat.
I took a spur-lok (flat base in the closed position) and put it behind my floor tom. I will have to make adjustments here and there, but after 45 years of drumming a certain way,my left foot needs something to step on.I use a ace bandage thing and tape on a Solan-pause heat wrap under the ace bandage. It worked OK.Its hell to grow old,but until I am 6 ft under I play der drums.... Thanks,MME
