Came across this forum a couple of days ago, and am stunned!
What a great knowledge pool!
I still have, and still play (although not as well, or anywhere near as often as I used to or would like to...lol) the used set of Ludwig Super Classics my dad bought for me back in 1964. I've always tried to find out more about them, with little sucess. Until I stumbled across this and another site (not a forum). I have learned more in the past few days than in the past 46 years! Apparently, I have a Buddy Rich Super Classic produced somewhere between 1948 and 1952.
The set is in good shape, no mods at all, and still sounds fantastic. I have in the past used nox-on to clean up the hardware....well like once every 20 years...regardless if it needed it or not (believe me, it did). I think the time has come to get a bit more aggressive in maintenance and do some serious cleaning up.
The only hardware part missing (I think it broke off in 1967) is the strainer throw off arm. I'll have to try and hunt one down.
Meanwhile, I'll keep reading the posts, learning about the virtues of Whink, Bar Keepers Friend, and car wax.
