Hi,I need some help with removing a baseball bat muffler from a jazz festival shell,is there some trick to it?The nut at the end of the thread just spins and wont come off.....very kind regards.... gaz
help with removing baseball bat muffler
if youre referring to the small nut that holds the lever with the felt, it should come right off unless the threads are stripped.

Hi Mike,I am trying to remove the whole thing so I can re-wrap the shell....regards Gaz
that small nut that holds the felt muffler comes off first. then the spring and others parts just slide off of the main part. then you remove that large nut that's against the shell.

Mike are these the nuts you are referring to? if so then they both must be stripped..gaz
Both are spinning? Are you holding onto the muffler arm (with some pliers if necessary,) from the outside when you try to unscrew the nuts from the inside? DOH
If not... try that.

Hi Purdie Shufle, yes I have tried that with no luck....its odd that both of them would be stripped?
u have to understand, some have a little burr (file mark)as a stop, just turn the nut, with a wrench it will pass over it and free up then its just sissasembly, look at it real good its not rocket science here...

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
ive never seen one of these stripped. its also odd that they are both stripped.

+1 - Mikey, that's why I thought the guy might not be securing the arm while he was turning the nut. Odd problem and especially odd that it happens twice on the same drum. I'd need to have it in front of me to know what's going on. Can't tell anything just from photos. Needs hands-on inspection.
BTW - is that a snare head muffler on the bottom? Who muffles a snare head?????
