I restored some 80s Ludwig Rockers awhile ago and got hooked on fixing up drums. Have been a drummer for about 37 years on and off. Well I am on again and have been practicing drum restoration on cheep drums. I enjoy reading thru this forum very much. Last week I purchased some Pearl drums, mainly to get the cymbals. I had some leftover mahogany veneer from a job and thought I would wrap these no name cheep drums with it. I have been reading several post about MIT and MIJ stencil drums and belive thats what I have. From my reserch I belive these are the Pearls that became the Export series. They had no badge and no sign of a badge being removed. The wrap was black and was held by a two sided tape that ran down the seam and the circumference of the drum on top and bottom. The shells are 9 ply luan, mahogany. The tom mount that goes on the base drum has 2006.2 stamped in the inside of it. I just wanted to see what the experts say about this drum set. Typical 12,13,16,22, 5x14 chrome snare. Paid 300 for the drums and fairly new Sabian AA rock hats, Sabian AA 16" medium crash, Sabian AA 20" medium ride and 10" Sabian AA splash. All with newer Gibralter heavy stands, one of them a boom. I am noew on the look out for old drums to fix up so you will probably hear from me again. Any info on my stuff pictured here will greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance, Jeff C

I think you'd pay that much for just the cymbals, so you got yourself a free kit. Nice going!

Probably 150.00 200.00,depending on condition, good kit for a beginner, rehearsal space,or a good beater kit for places you don't want to bring nice/expensive drums to.Since you have become interested in resto/rehab,you could use them to practice re wrapping modifiying/ cutting bearing edges etc.

Yes, I am going to wrap them in mahogany veneer, I own a custom cabinet shop. Do all my own finish work so I have a huge selection of stains to pick from as well. Any idea, looking at the hardware what these drums are?

They are most certainly Pearl stencils-eighties vintage.A picture of the snare throw-off will date it better. The wing screws are eighties.

Be careful letting people know you are a cabinet/veneer guy-you may end up with alot of friends.....like me.Welcome

Thank you, so do you guys conisider drums like this collectable? Here is a pic of the throw. I will post pictures of the completed set when I am finished. I have not done much with venners, I usually work with 3/4" plywood and hard wood. I had a job making 6 drawer fronts for a Doctor and had to buy a 4x8 sheet of the mahogany. There was just enough off fall to cover the kit. Thinking about stain color now! Thanks again!

Yes-80's/90's throw-off.I would not consider that drum,especially a 6-lug drum,collectable.I use those for trade-in's.Student snares.

Thanks, I am using the drums ( not the snare) to practice wraping veneer. Hope to sell for a few bucks. If I cant then I might find someone in need. I am building a kitchen for tonado victom in Alabama for free, mabye someone could use a drum kit aslo!
