Help me Identify This Luddy Snare Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Loading...

This snare came with a kit I bought a few years ago. it has just been sittin out in the garage. I have decided to do something with it. It looks like a Ludwig Standard or maybe a rocker. I has that type of lugs. It has no reinforcement ring. The interior is a off white color and appears to be original. It has a early p83 strainer. 5 X 14. 8 lugs. Looks like the screw was on top of the muffler. The tension rods look like early 60s to me, but im not sure. Im pretty positive its genuine ludwig. Looks like 3 ply too. Maybe a rocker someone took the wrap off of and sanded to bare wood. No stain or finish on the drum at all.

Anyone have any input on this? Any info will be muchly appreciated...

Just a few more pics. The seam is very flush and barely detectable. The tension rods look like 60's or 70's

in the 80's, they had the s/l snare which later became the rocker snare. they were chrome over wood. the rocker version used these style of lugs. a p83 would bolt in to where the p85 would have been. the early ones had a granitone type of interior. but most of the rocker models had a clear interior that looks a lot like your exterior. ive got a couple of these but they are 4 ply with no re-rings. pretty good sounding drums. maybe this is what you have. just a guess. both of mine have been wrapped like you mentioned.a 5x14 in galaxy and a 6.5x14 in sky blue pearl.

Someone switched out the strainer I bet. I have a 69 standard snare, It was graintone interior with rings. I bet its a rocker, but I thought rockers were 6 ply??? The interior is painted off wite and looks original...

i'm not real up on that era. maybe they went to 6ply. but the original models of those snares were indeed 4 ply. they are in the 84 catalog. they most likely had a transition from 4 to 6 if they did change. those drums had b/o badges with bowties first. then b/o badges with rocker lugs. then black/white badges with rocker lugs. so, there were several styles evolving within that same style drum.
