Well I've just discovered after removing the bottom head that the bit of separation that was there even when I got the drum does look slightly worse- between a couple of lugs. I'm wondering if I could actually fix this myself I've no idea how to do this and would need detailed advice. The separation gap is not great it's very thin I've took a photo of it on this I pad but am not sure how I send it. I also need a screw for the buttplate as I can hardly get a screwdriver into the slot. If I don't hear anything i'le probably post a thread again asking for specifics.
Help I've just knocked my snare drum
Not hard enough to cause damage.
But just hard enough to cause the head to slip on the bearing edge. So it came all out of focus. Retuning will fix it.
I had to come up with something. That one seems most logical.
And I totally made that up.

Do you have any wood working skills ?
The seperation is a easy fix. Do a search here and you'll find tons of hits. Some glue and clamps. A water bottle to help the glue "wick" into the seperation nice. And let her dry. If you have trouble finding threads let me know. My old 60's LBP Slingerland thread had some pics. Plus tons of others from everyone here. Very easy and common thing to address. Good chance the door hit was just enough to help the seperation along.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Non at all unfortunately, But sending the drum by post could do more harm! Well maybe a long drive. But this separation doesn't realy look that bad. When I got this different I pad the other had been registered under a mates name so I've lost all my mail stuff etc and I think maybe tha ' sending address of this forum. So try for being so goofy and helpless but realy..Iam a lotCryBaby
On a 1 ply shell you really want to fix the ply separation, As it continues to develop around the entire shell eventually.
Anyway thanks people it is a great help this forum much appreciated . I will look for these posts henceforth
It sounds like it didn't take a harder blow than it would under a powerful rim shot.
Get us as close a photo of the ring separation as you can and we can tell you whether it's even worth messing with.
I'm interested to see the drum just in general, as my latest drum purchase is a Slingerland Student Model Radio King snare, and my main kit is Slingerland.
