Help ID'ing Premier Bop Kit

Loading...

Greetings,

I picked up this kit for a good price. Sizes are 12/14/18. I'm trying to determine which model or series they were. There is no identifying information anywhere except the Premier badges. The badges say they are made in England (which we all know), which I assume is at least good, as they weren't really low level Premiers made in China or Taiwan. I know they probably aren't high end either, due to the lack of a suspension mount on the rack tom and eye bolts on the tom/floor tom brackets. Aside from a little wear here and there, they are in very good shape. The spurs are not original, and there are a few extra holes where the old ones were, but not a deal breaker. Also, I know that it looks like the generic "Wine Red" wrap, but these are actually a lacquer finish. There is no seam anywhere on any drum, including where they may have hidden it under the long lugs (there is still no seam present between the end of the lug and the bearing edge on any of the shells). It has a bit of metallic hint to it, but it definitely is a lacquer and not a wrap.

What era would these be from (I'm thinking 90's or newer). Would these be considered APK's? XPK's? Something else? I just want to be able to learn more about my new find. Photo 3 shows the interior of the bass drum (figured the wood or grain might help in ID'ing them). Also, if it helps, the rack tom has one screw per lug attaching it to the shell, where the floor tom and bass drum have two screws per lug.

Thanks for your help!

Looks like a late-90's Premier Cabria in Metallic Burgundy Lacquer. Nice little kit.

Thanks for the reply, and for attaching the catalog! It is very blurry on the bottom of Page 1, but I concur with the file name of 1998 (the narrative on Page 3 also suggests that, or perhaps a bit later)? It indeed does looks like the "Metallic Burgundy Lacquer" finish. Oddly enough, it shows that finish being available on Page 6 of the attached catalog, but it is the only one not listed on Page 7 (all the other ones are).

The other curious thing is, I don't see an 18" bass drum offered, and mine certainly is an 18". I guess it could be a converted floor tom, but the matching wood hoops and single tom holder seem to contradict that, as they didn't offer a single tom holder, per your attached catalog. Plus, even if someone added the spurs and the tom receiver, there are no extra holes where the leg brackets would have been on the 18". The plot thickens....................

Yep definitely a 98-00 UK made Cabria. Shells are Eucalyptus with Tulipwood inners (see through lacquer version had a Basswood outer)

From memory the 18" bass drum model was added in 1999

Thanks for the replies!

Good to know. I still haven't cleaned/polished them yet, but looking forward to doing so. This is my first Premier kit, so I am excited to play them.

I also think it's funny how they call them "loose" drums instead of component drums. For some reason I imagine a herd of drums just rolling down the street in the old west, and some guy in a cowboy hat saying "Better run fetch the sheriff. Those drums are loose again!"
