HELP!!! Broken Ludwig Atlas Stand

Hey guys,

I recently had the stud that holds the cymbal in place on my early 70's Ludwig Atlas cymbal stand snap in two. The piece itself is 5/16" at the thicker end, and 1/4" for the end that the cymbal rests on. Overall, it is 2" long.

Do any of you guys have an idea on where I may find another one of these? I've looked at every hardware store in my area, and it seems these two-sided studs that have different dimensions are pretty hard to come by these days.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love this stand!

If no one can help with a new part try the auto part stores. Dorman makes a good selection of double ended threaded studs. They might have one the sizes you need.

BTW I think Slingerland used the same stud on some 70's cymbals stands. 2 of mine have the same threaded studs on them.

That shaft can be welded. Filed and re-used as a last ditch effort. That`s white steel.

Oddball has the right idea, you will not find this part in an auto parts store (car parts are metric). If you bring the stand to a machine shop (check yellow pages or ask an automotive fabricator). A machine shop will either weld it or be able to fabricate a new one from stainless steel barstock. Good luck!!!

I've actually found those double ended studs that Glen mentioned in my local True Value Hardware store. I wanted to mount some large chinas on my Ludwig Hercules boom stands using cymbal springs and didn't want to screw up the threads on the original parts so I swapped them out with those double ended 5/16" studs. Works great.

MrMojo stated that the ends of the rods are fractional threaded and OF DIFFERENT diameters 1/4, 5/16. A double ended studd of 5/16" will indeed work if MrMojo doesn't have vintage cymbals that require the smaller vintage size 1/4" post.

Not all car parts are metric......If you were born in the 80's or later you might think this. Or live outside the US.
