My wife found me a Slingerland COW set at St Vincent DePaul. It has the chocolate interior. Its pretty beat up. I'm working to clean it up and put it back to work as a player kit. I'm wondering what type heads to put on it. It will be used primarily for Blues music.
Heads for a COW Slingerland
How about "calf skin"? :D Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Actually, a nice new "vintage" style head would probably sound good. Would love to see pictures after you get it cleaned up.

concert toms or double headed?
Both the rack tom, floor tom and kick tom have reso heads.
On the toms I'm playing mine with Coated Ambassador batter and reso.
Makes the 3-plies very resonant and warm.
Just installed Clear Powerstroke 3 on the 24" Bass drum.
Love it !
agreed with Stedi, 3 ply's love coated ambassador batters and clear reso heads. Single ply heads are a proven route for a great sound.
For the reso heads would you use ambassadors or diplomats?
I play Ambassador coated on batter and reso side on the 13" rack tom.
The 16" & 18" floors have ambassador coated top and Ambassador clear on bottom.
I choose the Remo Ambassadors to warm up the sound a bit as I have the impression that the Chrome adds to the sound and have the tendency to harden the typical 3-ply sound.
As Shawn said, 1970's 3-ply and a single ply head is a great marriage.
I use coated batters and clear reso heads.
This is news I heard about the leather covered slingerlands and the wall paper covered slingerlands and the denim but cow print? I've never heard of them. Tell me about cow slingerlands please
