Hello there - I'm in the process of (also) restoring a c1912 Hawkes & Son 'Snapper' 15x3 snare drum - see pics. After a lot of elbow-grease it's looking great, and sounding cracking too. Two of the tension 'wingnuts' were missing when bought. The thread is a very pre-international 6mm-ish affair. Any help identifying the thread or better still any spare wingnuts out there? The original snare mechanism was missing, so I've jimmied one together from bits lying around. If anyone has a 'derelict' out there, get in touch. Cheers in advance!

You've probably finished fixing up your Snapper now but I was searching around for info on a snapper I bought years ago (just because it looked nice and old with an original looking skin on it and came across your post.
I feel a little guilty about mine because I've never actually done any work on it. All it wants is a clean up. All the tuning keys are there and the snare so I really should make time for it.
I tried to look up how much they are worth now but couldn't find any info. Do you have any ideas?
Regards

Brodo - Don't take it personally if you don't get a response, the original post is over two years old!
Hope someone who is familiar with the drum chimes in for you.
Welcome to VDF!

Hello Brodo
Thanks for getting back to us! Indeed the 2 years have flown by!
I've no idea how much a Snapper is worth today. I found a place that has (at least) one for hire here in the UK - but it doesn't appear in their hire list.
Here's the link -
I'm still looking out for the missing parts.
Let me know if you want to let it go.
Cheers,
