Have any of your built your own drums??

I have built lots of them, some for some pretty famous drummers. Snowdog pretty much covered it.

I will add that if you have any questions, ghostnote is the site for DIY drum building.. you just have to have thick skin to navigate...

Here's a link to my member page over at Ghostnote, check the albums on the right there: latzanimal

I highly recommend Eames shells as well.....they've always been great sounding drums. As a non-related note (ya I know, sorry guys...) my dad was a drum student of Ralph Eames, the founder of Eames drum company, (Well, technically he bought the George B Stone drum company, but lets not nitpick) and he got to see the drums being made way back when.....some interesting stuff too. The fellow that ownes and operates it now, Joe Sweeny (?), was a student of Ralph's too, and he does amazing work. If you're looking for a nice custom birch shell kit, you can't go wrong with Eames.....

ok, enough of the infomercial....LoLoLoLo

Old Radio Kings and Leedys are solid shells....what they mean is one solid ply of wood steambent into a drumshell rather than a plywood shell.....

Snowdog mentioned Precision Drums out of NY. About 10 years ago I built a 4x13 maple snare from their stuff just to see what it would sound like. I'ts extremely "crackin". I'll post so you can see it. I think I spent out $80.00 incl shipping. Also, they are really nice guys, will answer all questions and give suggestions. These guys kow their stuff.

Precision does really know their stuff, but to clarify, they don't make their own shells, they are a distributor for Keller shells made in Manchester, NH.
