Guru much?

From RogerSling

It's all just for fun. Drum Guru? Not a one of us should claim that title. We are all just students of the instrument and hopefully a bit humble and view ourselves as such. Anything more would be egocentric. Loudmouthed Fred Flintstones ... blowhards ... not a very likable individual, I would think.

I couldn't agree more Sling. I'm sure a person of high caliber who collects, say Bun E. Carlos, would be humbled by the word Guru next to his name. I think we are all still learning.

My Dad told me a great saying once. I was in a conversation with another family member and that family member was very adament and rude interupting my thought, my Dad said to me later when I asked him why the person was so rude, he said, "Those who know the least usually know it the loudest".

It's just a word, it's a nice gesture and thought, but for me, call me a Guru always in training....

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

"Those who know the least usually know it the loudest".

Great Line, I like it a lot, but lets not forget, on this forum, there are those who do have a lot of information, knowledge, and expertise, and on some topics I consider them the experts. Maybe they deserve the distinction "guru" or at least subject area expert! I certainly do defer to them when I have questions on those topics.

This is a great forum for BS-ing and showing, sharing, etc. but when it comes to actual advise on repair, maintenance, valuation, etc. I do appreciate the opinions of those certain "gurus".

Haven't met one yet. We all have a little insight. We share and assist with what we know. If it is kept on that level, it makes for a wonderful discussion forum.

It is not necessarily a good thing to believe yourself all-knowing on any subject.

Here's a freebee:

If a person repeatedly calls lots of folks "friend" on a forum and has never actually met many of them, more than likely that person is dealing with some serious insecurities ... and is a red flag to those who participate in discussions with that individual. There will be some very strange things ahead. Those insecurities will give rise to the "Guru" mentality that will suck the life out of many-a-discussion boards. Pains in the rear.

Conversations are much more pleasant when we view ourselves with a bit of humility.

Again, the little name is just a software thing. It is not an earned or proclaimed title bestowed. And thank God for that.

Another thing that I have found to me with great humor are the number of members that in their Profile, state Pro drummer, and the kits that they have owned or do own. But yet we have real Pro drummers here that do not have in their profile one single thing that they are Indeed Pro's or the kits they own or did own??

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!
