I'm to the assembly stage on a few of my 70's Gretsch toms. I'm having to make a decision in regards to tension rod washers, I've noticed a slight dishing shape on the flat washers that attach from the inside shell. If i re-install I'm afraid of the washer not sitting flush and having decent contact with the shell. If I opt to flip them and I'm sure they would make better contact dished inward.
Also if i decide to install clean side up, the washers lose that well worn look that comes from age. I could probably re-flatten the washers by using a hammer then install patina side up. any advice?
