Gretsch Snare Help Please

Loading...

Gretsch experts please chime in.

A while back I got this 5" x 14" Gretsch snare in a convoluted trade deal on some Roger's and Camco stuff.

I think it is from the 1950's and appears to be three ply, from the no tag era.

I just finished giving it one of my rehab treatments, the lugs and other chrome is near perfect. It has some type of chrome over brass hoops I think, but they have a few nicks on them. The shell I polished up and has a few nicks here and there also but looks very nice.

I really don't know to much about Gretsch snares so I need a little help as to what it is and what it might be worth.

It is something I probably will take to Chicago and try to sell, as I am more of a Rogers and Camco guy having only one other Gretsch item and that is a late 70's early 80's Bop kit in my collection.

Any help would be appreciated as always.

Looks to me like a Renown snare:

Regarding the value I have seen them go for as low as $120 to as high as $400. Per the catalog your drum is in what appears to be the original mahogany finish.
