Hi guys, will you please help me out? I have an opportunity to buy these 1960's Gretsch Satin Flame drum kit. The seller said he thinks they are from '66 or '67. Also he says that the wrap is Silver Satin and is in excellent condition, but as you can see it's missing the bottom hardware. What would be a fair price to offer. He is asking $1800. is that a good deal?

Have you seen them in the flesh ? check the bearing edges and can you get the original hardware from the drums this color hides wrap damage well. If the wrap is good and tight, does it come with all in the pics? the price is about market., Of course offer less $1500-$1600 first maybe.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I'd say $1500 tops with everything pictured in VGC.

You're gonna spend another $200-$300 in hoops, rods and heads.

Nice drums for sure.

Good luck.

Okay Prostix, Is it a good deal? IMHO, No. If this was the kit I was searching for high and low, I may have a hard time letting go and make an offer over $1000 if the kit had no extra holes and was in good condition. Other than that I have seen Gretsch satin flame kits obtained for much less $1800 in today's market; white ones too. If its perfect for you...thats a question no one can answer with any certainty, but there are lots of nice kits out there for less.

I am not down on if its a have to have.

Is this a 12/12/16/20 configuration? It looks like the second tom is possibly a left hand tom that has been flipped over, with the tone control knobs showing out front instead of the badge.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

While I'd love a vintage Gretsch kit I would not pay $1800 for a satin flame. Probably of one my least favorite finishes .. $1800 would go for something else

I really would have to say / as it sits...

Guessing that all is good with the wrap/shells/lugs etc..

I couldn't part with more then $1000..

If complete and 9/10 condition...$1500/1600.

There one nearby / similar wrap ...going for less..

If I find I will incld the link..

Like "bumzdrummer" said, if the drums are the color you want and you have to have, then work out a deal. Otherwise, keep looking.

Here are my guess-timates for each piece individually:

Snare - ~$250 - $275

12" Toms - ~$140 - $150 each

16" Floor Tom - ~$175 - $200

20" Bass Drum - ~$200 - $250

Hi-hat/snare stand - ~$75 - $100 both

Hi-hats - Depends on what they are. Zildjian A's from '60's - ~$100 - $150, Zildjian K's - significantly more

Low-end - ~$1,090

High-end - ~$1,275

Plus you'll be spending around $200 to $300 for hoops, rods and heads.

If the Floor Tom was 14", then that could range from ~400 - $600, depending on the condition. People love them there 14" Floor Toms. :D

Another thing to consider, I thought I read that the Satin Flame wrap was more prone to cracking. So, even though they might not have cracks now, a temperature change on an already brittle wrap may create all types of future problems.

Hope this help and to everyone else, please correct me if I'm way off.
