Gretsch Roundbadges are back NAMM 2012!! Last viewed: 21 hours ago

Just got back from NAMM and wanted to throw a few pictures up from what Gretsch will be releasing this year for all my Gretsch fanatics out there. The most notable was the reintroduction of the Roundbadges again but there were some red flags to me that looked like an error on Gretsch's end the the most obvious being them not using the die cast hoops that make up a large portion of "that great gretsch sound" from those vintage roundbadge drums. The other issue was the Roundbadge itself looks to be made of aluminum or some other kind of lightweight metal it was not the classy brass badge we all know and love. In fact to be honest the hardware as a whole was a little on the cheap side to me. However, not to loose focus on the big picture they were some killer sounding drums and while not an exact reproduction of the classic Gretsch RB's they still look and sound great. I didn't take many pictures as I'm not a big picture taker and I go to NAMM for networking and of course all the wonderful SWAG that you end up throwing out 6 months later. Anyhow, I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on these. Also notable was Ludwig's offerings which were throwbacks as well but they were covered on another thread earlier this month. MSRP was showing at about 2,500 for a 5 piece kit but who knows what they will end up going for in the stores once released to the masses. Enjoy!

Wow, that blue snare drum's lug screws are SPLAYED!!

Unpainted bass rims don't look good to me.

Sad attempt im afraid. Hang on to those old Gretsch you were thinking about trading in. They,re the last of the real Gretsch.

Thanks for posting these pics. I saw an ad for these "Brooklyn Series" drums. While haven't seen any pricing info out, my guess is that these are a mid-range series kind of like DW's Performance line. Did you see any pricing?

I agree sad attempt. I just got so excited when I saw the COB Snare and those Roundbadges shining across the convention floor but with each step I took getting closer to the drums the worse I felt. I guess we can all still hope and pray that yamaha releases a proper Rogers repro line with Swivo hardware. I won't hold my breath though.. Laughing H
