What factors caused the demise of Gretsch drum production in the USA? What do the drum historians say about this fine iconic line of percussion instruments ?

FYI, there was NO DEMISE of USA production of Gretsch drums OR guitars. They are still made here in the usa...the top-of-the-line models anyway.

I was perusing the Grestch site... peruse, peruse, peruse...
Ignoring the stands, the top of the line Gretsch drums do look, from the outside anyways, pretty much like they did in the 1966 catalog. The lugs and hoops look identical... are they?
Or are they imported lower quality stuff that looks the same?
The quality of the chrome on the RB's was pretty outstanding, is it as good on the new ones?
On my RB drums I thought the lugs were brass where the chrome scraped away, no?
There will always be the nostalgia buffs who lament the past...What I really want to know is this : Has the acoustic drum industry reached it peak, or can we expect breakthroughs down the road.

I'm waiting for breakthroughs in the vintage drum industry, you know, NEW vintage drums that they just made, but from the 50's. :)
