Gretsch bop kit ground up 18" Round badge

From Rik_Everglade

No re-rings. How bout that?

Did 6 ply 14x18s ever have re-rings? I don't think I've ever seen one. It's the 3 ply 18" BDs and FTs that usually have them.

This drum is a 60's 6 ply. No re rings, silver sealer and paper tag. Even the 3 ply drums toward the late 50s had no re rings.

Hmm..... $222 per diameter inch. Let me digest that a bit and I'll get back to you. Coffee Break2

Oh, and, what exactly does that bass do that the 20-inch version at $50 per diameter inch can't?

Oh yes, I recall it now, it will fit in the boot of my MINI. Got it. Walking

I think the only 3 ply 14x18 without rings I've ever seen was rikeverglade's. I've seen 18-12-14 from as late as '61 with a 3 ply bass drum (with rings), and 6 ply toms.

Mine has the paper tag 5 digit serial so about mid 60s. I think they are pricey because original ones are rare. Anyway I will play it and see if I like it. If not I might sell. I have had offers of $4k all day.

4K for an 18" RB kick drum? Is this for real? What does Maxwell's sell these for? I might ask him - he's very approachable. You would have to have 2 other drums in exactly the same shade. Still, I guess if a DW 20" custom is $2800 . . .

I have been talking to Steve. He and his guys gave me good pricing info. Anyway I have the floor tom now. Just need the rack tom. I will wrap another to match for now. Steve said with just the 3 matching drums I could have a near $10k kit.

I will post pictures tonight. Still some work to do but now I have the floor tom and the snare drum.

While I HATE to do it I do have a spare 12" Roundbadge tom I can wrap to match the kit. So I guess 75% original on a 60's Gretsch bop kit is not bad!

Why ruin an original drum just to make it match? Matching drums don't make the drummer sound any better. $10,000.00 drums kits don't either. You as the drummer either can play or you can't. A good drummer can make any kit sound great.

I bought a project tom so why is my logic flawed? I can play just fine and have recorded a few albums.

The wrap on top of the floor tom I bought to make my bass drum hoop inlay. I guess by that logic also I should

not have done that.
