Greed Running Rampant in the "For Sale" Section

Oh boy. He's venting again ...

What the heck? What drives a person to join a forum community and make friends and then try to take advantage of them?

Why would a person post items in the "For Sale" section here at levels based on ebay market values or better? I'm not speaking of any one person ... Unfortunately. There are quite a few individuals doing this.

Guys, it's not unheard of to give a forum member a break on pricing. It's actually a courtesy. There are many of us who ... wait for it ... GIVE items away. We do it to help each other out. We are not driven to claw money out of each others pockets. We don't run to eBay and find a couple of very high examples of pricing and post our items at that level ... or MORE!

If you want to sell on eBay and make a buck ... great. Good for you. But, please don't try and scrape us over the same freekin' coals. It's just rude and incredibly uncaring.

We help each other out. That's just what we do. If this diatribe bugs you, then so be it. You probably don't get invited to many parties.

I'm done for now.

Actually, most of the prices I have seen posted here are WAYYYYYY higher than the same item on eBay.

I always wondered the same thing as you. Why list it (higher) here than eBay. Does the seller think that the people here might not know the value and would pay so much more than someone on eBay?

Always made me wonder as well.

+1.........I'm in total agreement on this one. On another forum, a member bragged of getting a 22" K Istanbul for a grand, then lo and behold a few weeks later, he's selling for BIN on Ebay for $2500.00 OBO. I'm all for capatilsim, but crap like that ****es me off. If you got such a good deal, sell it to someone for a nice profit who will appreciate it.,...

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

And then offer less than half the going rate for a rare color snare in pristine condition. I understand rarity, but offering a less than even realistic price for a drum that is uber rare is insulting.

I have some snares for sale. They are MIJ, and they are above average ebay prices, but not the highs I have seen for some snares that sell for over 100, even for completed sales. Some of those made zero good sense to me...but then I don't get the reasoning behind high prices for BOP either. However, my snares have actually been set up and made to actually be playable, and even recordable. So, there are some instances in which the face-value market price is not a realistic one for certain items.

This one, however.....a 14" Rogers floor tom is a hard to come by item priced in the realm of sanity. I agree with Micnic...take to ebay if you really need that kind of money. And please, don't insult people when making an offer on items you know are rare. It hurts their little feelings.....

What would really be nice is if, when someone sells something on this forum, they donate a small percentage of their profit to this website. It would be like tipping the bartender. We all do that.....right? ;)

i hope i don't fall into this category.

i just try to sell my stuff for what i paid for it..and if its something that didn't mean that much to me then i'll take a hit.

i mean if someone would considering (local pickup) for my kit then i would prob work with him a lot (prob do like $1500, where i saw the same kit on ebay go for $2500) i usually only sell things when i have something else in mind. so as long as i can sell it for whatever else i have in mind. i'm fine. i don't care if i take a hit this way just so long as i get the other kit i'm looking for.

but i work in a used music store and i know what things go for. i actually run the drum department at my store. and if you're saying that putting a fair (what something is worth. not too low not too high, just right.) price on something on a forum page is "wrong" or "unethical" then you got another thing coming.

i think most people on here are looking for some super deal/steal. where as i have a lot of pride in paying what something is worth. sure some k's are worth like 3k..but they might not be worth $500 to me. its all in the eye of the be-holder/what they're looking for.

i try to do my best with forum members. give them a discount or eat the shipping. but i'm not gonna be swindled. i've been doing this for far to long to recognize the fish from the sharks. sometimes i'll sell something for like half what its worth because that's what i paid for it. or that's what i think its worth. (ex. sold a pair of black label 15" sound-edge hats for $250) why? you might ask. because i got them from my store for that price and i did not care for the sound. i could have threw them on ebay and gotten Lord knows what for them. but i got good vibes from a good forum member and was fine with it.

and don't be so worried about the sharks. they'll get whats coming to them.

hey Mcjnic,Your post--vent-- got me thinking why is it that when people go to sell a drum or parts they will say Bonham type ete.I have seen this on this forum,C/L,Ebay,and up goes the price like Rare Ludwig L-arm/tom mount/drums Bonham type .Don't drummers know that the L-arm or tom-mounts is just a ludwig part that was on any ludwig drums you can buy?? That's what gets me sellers always add a word or drummers name to a drum part....Mikey

How true, It seems if it's Ludwig it's Bonham, and let's not forget Slingerland

everything is either Krupa or Rich and of coarse every drum, part, or what ever

is "extremely rare!

Well,Ludwig did come out with a "Bonham" drum set in the catalogs of today but never in the 70s...For Slingerland yes they had in the catalogs of the 60s-70s Buddy Rich set, cymbal stands,L-arms,ete ...Also krupa...Mikey
