About a year and a half ago, I bought an OLD Slingerland 10x14 marching drum shell with lugs only on eBay for $30. My intention was to get the lugs for another project. The seller was close by, so I just drove over to pick it up.
We rapped for about three hours about drumming, music and what not, and as I was leaving, he said "Oh, I forgot, this box of stuff goes with it."
It wasn't part of the auction, but the box had a couple of rims and a beat up badge along with a decrepit strainer system, and a couple of heads.
Well, the rims were COB, the badge went with the drum, and the butt end of the strainer was usable.
Still, my plan was to get the lugs off the shell and use them on something else.
I put the box and shell in my drum room, and went on eBay, and there was a BIN auction for the lugs I needed. I bought them, and used them for what I had bought the marching shell for.
I haven't considered altering a shell that didn't need to be altered since then.
A few weeks ago, I finished a restoration of the OLD shell with some help from my buddies here on the Forum.
It turned out pretty good, and she sounds GREAT !!!......:)
I think things worked out the way they were supposed to......
