(why the bridge mention Dr. Bill?)
Lovely looking A.
(weren't Avedis always gentle?) slope.
Not always. The 22" block large stamps are notable for abrupt transitions. Ang a good example of this can be seen here:

So I decided to bring this up because its shows just how much varaiation there can be even amongst cymbals of the same manufacturer and as in this case argueably the most famous one, and even within that manufacturer's cymbals of similiar vintage.
Also because I have 2-22" A's of similar vintage (early 60's) that seem to show similar varaiation and....
Since how the bell is the "brain" of the cymbal, I decided to bring this up in order to hopefully inspire a little discussion about how overall sound differences in cymbals as a whole may be attributable to such variance in bell design. And to my knowledge this is a topic that has never been previously discussed much if at all. Probably only you and I, Joe, and maybe just a FEW members at drum forum would also. But they won't come over here to talk about it.
So discuss it amongst yourselves.....I'm getting verklempt.
I understand that that is where a cymbal holds the tension of the bow, and that the abrupt transition gives one a powerful ping sound.
I also understand that the smooth transition is common in the later eras, like after IIIc.
I'm with Drumaholic - I prefer a smoother transition.
remind me of the Roy Haynes Zildjian sticks there..
