Anyone seen it yet? I read the article on Reverb about it. Sounds like it literally is what the title suggests...comedy specifically tailored to drum geeks. You know it had to be a tough sell with the Netflix people. I can imagine them hearing his pitch and saying "We were really hoping to cast a broader net than that Mr. Armisen." Anyway, I'm home from work with a sick kid today so I'm gonna watch it.
I saw it last week and though it was hilarious . Stereotypes, hilarious bits on real life drumming, drummers, thoughts on drummers and non drummers alike. It was funny because all of it was true. He also gives a brief, albeit not too thorough crash course on all the types of kits from different eras, by whom they were typically used, and styles they were used for. Then he did a few zany, unrelated SNL type bits as only Fred Armisen can do, such as the "decomposing dead fox in lapsed time", and the whole "hipster song writer genre" with drummers using unconventional kits made up of world percussion, electronics a kick/snare using mallets, etc. I think it's an absolutely cool idea that he's come up with, and he includes some famous and not so famous drummers to take part in the show. Looking forward to the next shows, and hope that this wasn't a one-off thing for him..
Cheers,
Rob
