I found a snare today to join to my 1971 Rogers Starlighter in WMP. I've not been a huge fan of WMP over the years (once sanctioned here for an unkind comment), but this kit came to me a couple of years ago for short $$ and I could not resist. Today I located a snare that fits the era as close as I probably would ever be able to find. Obviously, finding a Fullerton era wooden shell snare with this much fade would be like a needle in a haystack moment, so COB it is. Special thanks to Mark (idrumforfun), who gave me the first critical part I needed to get the kit usable and in a good overall state, which was a replacement for the bass drum swivo that holds the tom arm. Mine was snapped off and Mark sent the complete one that you see in the photo.
Thinking about this WMP kit caused me to be reminded of a video of Dave Weckl playing one of Buddy Rich's 70's era WMP Slingerland kits. Watching this video again (begin at about 1:17 of the last segment) brought back some of the thrill of seeing Buddy live in the late 60's/early 70's. He was such a dynamic drummer, musician and entertainer and the band on the occasions I saw him was on fire (Lennie's on the Pike and later when Lennie's was at the Holiday Inn on Rte 1 after the fire). Dave does a fantastic job recreating that feel. The Slingerland kit is drop dead gorgeous and sounds as good as it gets. Enjoy.
