Found A Rogers Bass Drum Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Maybe you could do what I did. My 16" floor tom sounds great now with new veneer.http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=42740

Wow! Eye Ball

Good job on that floor tom.

Do you think I could patch the outer veneer?

Or should I try to strip it off?

I don't really mind working on something just for fun.

For me it's a like a double edge sword.

I hate to put hours and hours of work and a bunch of money into a drum that might be worth $100.00.

This drum didn't cost me anything so I'm not out any money whatever I decide to do with it.

It would probably be easier to just buy a nice Rogers bass drum shell.

Hell, I'm still trying to finish wrapping a Gretsch kit that is sitting here staring at me.

Maybe I'll just put it back in the storage.

If anyone wants this shell let me know.

It can be had for the low low cost of shipping. LoLoLoLo

The outer ply on my drum was pretty easy to get off but who knows what yours will be like. Take a stiff putty knife, about 2" wide and see if it will come off without messing up the ply below it. If it doesn't work then I suppose you could "patch" in the low areas with some new veneer, then wrap it. Either way, it will be a lot of work so I guess you have to decide if its worth it or not. Your offer to give it away is really nice, because as I said earlier, someone can use it. The worst part of the drum is all the extra holes, but I think someone could still take the time to make it work.

Thank you!

Veneer patch can be done. It'll be big but will fix it. If you recover the drum you'll never see it. I had to patch a old RK 20" floor tom shell in a few places. The original wrap tore off the outer mahogany ply.

I wish I could have seen this drum before it was wrapped.

I'll bet $100.00 that the old wrap was good enough for me.

The guy who gave it to me was this old guy I worked with and he wasn't even a drummer.

I don't have any idea where it came from. Coffee Break2

Dayton tag + flat grey interior = 1966.

20" shells are common if you need one to rewrap. That one is too far gone to bother with, unfortunately...

In the past I have used shells like that for donor material to make plugs for repairing other 20" shells.
