Angled ... and high. Counterintuitively, it helps MY dynamics: Such a setup means that extra thought goes into a louder crash. Ride is relatively flat, but I'm sitting low and can still get a pretty good crash out of it when needed.
I've been playing them this way since 1980-81, based on Chester Thompson's setup when he played with Genesis and Phil Collins. Off topic, but the cymbals are also loose and have lots of play.
In more than 40 years of playing, I have yet to crack a cymbal.
