As was I also Mitch. Hope I didn't sound like a cranky old man. Sometimes the wood will compress or crack. So it really depends on the part and what your doing. So it's not 100%. Brass is also good too. I have both wood and brass jaws I can use on my vise. Anyhoooo nice fix on that! Those Clubdates look so cool too. Yes Sir

Aha yeah! There's only two, maybe three guys who pee in pool here, and I know who they are. :)
On a humourous note, that clip and I had an adversarial relationship to begin with, so tool marks were a form of revenge....haha just kidding.
I think some sort of buffer is a very good idea on a vise. In this case I wanted all force to work on the clip, with no absorption. I actually have some slats of a very hard exotic wood I can't remember the name of right now, but couldn't be bothered to install them. It's not padauk....some other strange name.
