congrats looks like a holly wood to me with a add on nice, a lot of work will make it wright just start 1 drum at a time take it all apart and clean and re assemble good luck cant wait to see after done heres mineafter u clean it try the butcher block paste wax on inside of drum it will restore smell and protect it comes in satin or gloss
Hollywood set huh? Pretty neat...at least I'll know what to look for when I'm doing research...another gentleman had the same thoughts...the 24" bass drum possibly being an add-on or the like...
I'll check out that butcher block paste wax...sounds good.
I've decided to do them in pairs...I already have the 12" & 13" toms disassembled...I'm now working on (or at least will be when I get home from work) polishing up the hardware and getting my bearings on what I can do with the yellowed wrap...I'm leaning towards very very light wet sanding with 2000 grit paper followed by turtle wax polishing compound...but I'm still doing searches for more info :)
Thank you!

do ya need to get rid of the patina on the wrap? Personally I love it as it makes them warmer to look at.Be gentle if you start sanding on em!
You know...I was kind of thinking the same thing - one drum in particular is more heavily yellowed than the rest it seems...I may start there and see what comes up...If with very cautious work I get any bad vibes I may just leave it as it is - the wrap is complete and nice and tight. I'd rather have it yellowed and "aged" than ruined or damaged for sure...
Thanks again for the input...your help is so much appreciated.

I would start with one of the Novus products,#2 would be cool. See how it looks after that.
Not a bad idea...maybe something like that would get the kit to an acceptable level and I wouldn't even need to get to any wet sanding...I heard Meguiars...if that's the right spelling...offers similar products. I live in a small village...but luckily there are 2 auto parts stores...I'll see if I can get my hands on one or the other to try before I risk using any sandpaper...
Thanks for the advice!

+1 on the novus 1,2,or 3.NO..NO STEEL WOOL.Mothers or Fitz or a good quality chrome polish will do wonders after you clean most of the crud off.Use Dawn.....yes Dawn dish soap to clean your chrome and hardware in.Soak the smaller parts for 24 hours, rinse completely, and then polish.Use a crumpled up piece of alumnium foil and a heavy nylon brush to clean threads, and on stubborn rust.Go slow and yor patients will be rewarded.

I just restored a 60's Slingerland that was silver sparkle turned gold or ginger ale as they say. I cleaned mine up with Blue Magic and it got all the junk off and they still have that aged look to them. These will be awesome when they are complete! You're in the right place for good info! Lots of knowledgable people here that have been doing this stuff a long time!

Amen to that...I can't believe the amazing help I've gotten already.
I just tried the plastic polish, the 2000 grit wet sandpaper, and even some auto compound...did nothing...I'll have to live with the fade...it doesn't look too bad though when cleaned up...I have a few pics of how far I've gotten...
The tom is the 12"...it was the dirtiest in the pics...the lugs are from the 13"
