Well this was a great project snare to work on after only working on building new drums for the last year or so.
I love the way it ended up. It is not the most pristine 1920 snare out there...but there is something very cool about the earthiness it has with 90 years + of patina on the NOB shell and hardware. I did momentarily think of having it stripped and re-plated...but it has a cool vibe as is. I am going to leave it. I dont feel like I have to be so very careful with it when I go to play it.
I have yet to really sit down and play it but will here in a little bit.
Here some shots of how it came out. The lugs as you can see were pretty bad but did come our fairly nice.
BTW...the thing about the left side throw off lever is still a bit of a puzzle. Mike C said to just flip the main body on the throw off and the lever will end up on the right...which it does... but the mechanizum does not work in that position. The cut out curve is in the wrong position to work properly. I think the arm plate was either but on upside down (it has a rivet) at the factory...or the rivet wore out and when replaced it was put back upside down causing the lever to end up to the left of the throw off body. I guess I have a one off lefty throw!
