Favorite vintage snare throwoff?

I think the Rogers Swiv-O and Slingerland Zoomatic>(until the tension knob falls off!) are my faves..

Never tried a Billy Gladstone ..but that one looks super nice...

Yours?

The stick throws would be my choice. Never had one yet, but I like the idea behind them. Most have Leedy origins !i

I have a Gladstone Repro - it's on my LangPercussion. It works smooth as butter......probably my favorite.

Since parallel drop drums are the purebred , in all drum companies stables( to those , that didn't/don't make them----what were you thinking?); it would be any number of those. The simple lift and drop action of a lever is smooth and precise. Some have a forward and back action, that mimics the action of a plain throwoff.

As conventional ones go; I prefer those that tension on the left and throw on the right, or preferably those that tension on both sides, making centering the wires easy. Trixon and Gretsch Microsensitive, come to mind, although the Microsensitive is vulnerable to incompetent use.

I really like the throw on my 1941 Ludwig and Ludwig snare. It is one of the three point types. Second would be the P83's on the 60's Ludwigs. Simple and effective.

Lots of nice strainers out there!

I guess my favorites would be:

Rogers Swivomatic - well engineered

Ludwig P83/85 - simple and efficient
